A Step Forward

Tobacco Free Clinton Franklin and Essex Counties

Tobacco-free Clinton Franklin and Essex and Reality Check work to foster environments supportive of policies that reinforce the tobacco-free norm in communities throughout New York State.  This approach to chronic disease prevention utilizes a community-based strategy which includes community education, community mobilization, government policy maker education and advocacy with organizational decision makers in order to create local environments that demand policy change through youth action and community engagement.

The program goals and objectives are focused on four initiatives:

  • Point of Sale (POS) marketing including Tobacco-Free Pharmacies
  • Smoke-Free Housing (multi-unit dwellings)
  • Tobacco-Free Outdoors (parks, playgrounds, employers, and entrances)
  • Smoke-Free Media (Smoke-Free Movies and internet)

Since 2001, the Champlain Valley Family Center and Tobacco-Free CFE and Reality Check has been working with communities to create healthy places for people to live, work and play.
